Your Guide to Success in 2024

Welcome to 2024 — and to Legally in the loop, a blog run by the Griffith LSA!

We hope you enjoyed your break — or for those of you who did Trimester 3, we hope you enjoyed being able to brag that you didn’t get a break (yes, you’re better than the rest of us).

Either way, Trimester 1 is upon us and it’s time to get prepared. In the wise words of every self-proclaimed motivational speaker: ‘if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.’ While it’s corny, there is some truth to the statement.

So here are some tips to set you up for success:

  1. WHAT KIND OF LAW STUDENT do you want to be?

It’s time to self reflect. If this isn’t your first year, ask yourself what kind of law student are you?

Are you the kind of law student that packs their bag the night before, plans out their outfit, finishes all their pre-work, and comes to class early with their gigantic Stanley cup the size of their head? Or are you the kind of law student that wakes up 10 minutes before class unprepared and un-caffeinated?

Once you realise what might be holding you back, it’s time to break the cycle. And if this is your first year studying law you can avoid developing any bad habits before they start because as they say, the best way to quit a bad habit is not to start. So leave them behind so that this year, you can be the law student that you aspire to be.

2. GET INVOLVED

Uni shouldn’t be all work and no reward. Uni life is also supposed to create meaningful opportunities for networking, social connection, and fun.

The LSA has plenty to offer — whether it be informative events such as the Women in Law Breakfast on the 12th of April, or the Start of Tri drinks coming up on Week 2 Friday night, or the always-anticipated Law Ball at the end of the year. We are even launching our very own Griffith LSA book club!

What’s coming up?

Start of Tri Drinks

The perfect way to start your year! Kick back and relax with some good laughs, food, and drinks, and enjoy the perfect chance to meet other LSA members and Griffith Law school students. The event will be held at Mr PP’s Southport on Friday March 15th from 6pm, just a short trip from the GC campus. Follow the link in our bio to buy a ticket now!

Mooting Skills Night

Want to know more about how to be successful at mooting? Join our Mooting Skills Night on Week 3 Tuesday night! See our Instagram for more details.

Book Club

Calling all bookworms!

Whilst we are law students, we will not be reading any 500-page books about the wonders of contract law, or the likes. What we will be reading is… well, it’s up to you. Voting will be open for 24 hours on our Instagram and you will have your very own say out of which 3 options we read. Get ready to vote! Our first book club meet up will be at the Moot Court on the GC Campus on Week 4 Friday night.

Women in Law Breakfast

Coffee, breakfast, and an inspiring morning from spokeswomen conquering the legal field — if that sounds like your cup of tea, then the Women in Law Breakfast will be perfect for you. Save the date for 7:30 am on 12th of April at QT Gold Coast (more details to come).

This is just the beginning — see our Instagram for more!
